Moving is one stressful job; there is a huge amount of packing that needs to take place and this can take its toll on you. Not to forget the long hours of organizing what needs to be done, disposing off extra materials, cleaning the house to perfection and of course, making sure your new place is safe.
If you are moving into a ready-made home or have built one of your own, the security perks are same for both. In my previous blog, I presented a check list of things to do before you move home. Here are a few house moving security tips that will help you keep your house and belongings safe and sound:
Change the locks: This is the very first thing you need to do in order to make sure that your house is secure. Get a unique lock system that ensures your keys can’t be copied. This will ensure peace of mind.
Security alarms: If house has already has a system in place, all you need to do is change the code. Who knows how many people knew the previous code? Make sure you familiarize yourself with the workings of the alarm system.
Garage: This is one place you might not give so much importance but trust me, most burglars find a way to your home via the garage. The latches, locks and alarms should be in a proper working order.
Boxes of your goods: Your appliances and gadgets have probably arrived all wrapped up in boxes and containers. It is important to keep the boxes hidden and out of sight to ensure you don’t attract any unwanted interest.
Windows: Here’s the place where most thieves get in from; the windows. Check them for any broken hinges or locks that might give thieves an added advantage.
Be creative: As per tradition, we hide our spare keys in flower pots, under the mats or in the door hangings. If you know these places, so do the thieves. Let the artist in you arise and find the most outrageous places to hide keys that only you can find.
Know your company: Seriously, do you even know if the packing company is reliable? You better do your homework before letting them handle all your precious items. Make sure the company is well known and has a good reputation.
Be friendly: As soon as you move in, make sure to meet your neighbors. It is important to get to know your neighbors and the area to ensure a smooth transition.
Moving may well be a stressful time, but it is important not to rest on your laurels when you have moved, as there is much more work to be done. Take these little house moving security tips up your sleeve so that you don’t have to suffer any time later.
