Being a parent is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. You get to watch your children grow, learn to walk, say their first words and be the apple of your eye. However, parenting is not an easy job because when children grow they also go through teething, potty training and bed wetting.
Not only can bed wetting be a horrible experience for the child, it also adds an extra burden on the parent. This is not your child’s fault, it’s a part of the maturing process and there are a number of ways of dealing with it. Here are some bed wetting solutions for children:
Eliminate the root cause: Every problem has a reason behind it and bedwetting points straight at too much liquid intake. Give your children lots of water and fruit during the day because any growing child needs these nutrients in their diet. On the other hand, one-two hours before the child goes to bed, do not feed them on liquids especially caffeinated ones, fizzy drinks etc. Make sure they go to the bathroom before you tuck them into bed.
Make it easy: Determine what the reasons are behind your children not wanting to go to the bathroom. Some children are scared of the dark, therefore put up some lights in the hallway to the bathroom or give them a handy torch they can use. Simultaneously, make sure their room is close to the bathroom so there’s no hindrance to it. Keep them motivated, encourage them to use the bathroom in the night and make sure they know you are with them every step of the way.
Know your child: Bedwetting may not always be a product of too much water intake. It can be psychological; if you have gone through a divorce, or there are family complications, a pet has died recently or they are facing a tough time at school. Furthermore, ask them if anything scares them during the night. You might have the answer soon.
Portable potty: This is one easy method to motivate your children; by putting a portable pot next to their bed. This will help them overcome their sleep to get up, pee in the pot and get back in into bed. Overtime, start putting the pot further from the bed till it leads to the bathroom.
Motivate: Always encourage your children. Being a good parent always comes down to making sure your children are praised, when they don’t wet their beautifully designed bed. Make sure you tell them how proud of them you are. Or even take them out for a treat if there’s a week without it. On the other hand, do not scold him if they can’t stop the habit because this is where your child needs support, not an angry parent.
Consult a doctor: Some people consider putting on diapers at night; contrariwise others feel that this will be a stoppage to the motivation. Consult the doctor on what you should do, depending on your child’s intensity of bedwetting.
I hope you find these bed wetting solutions for children helpful. This phase may be tough on you, but don’t look at the present. Look at the future where you see your fully grown child, a responsible adult and a beautifully raised person. All these years and struggles will be worth it if you add just a touch of love.
