Today the topic of my post is about memory foam mattresses vs. pocket sprung mattresses. If you don’t have much of an idea about pocket sprung mattresses, let me introduce it to you first. Pocket sprung is the enhanced form of a spring mattress that is designed to provide you better support and comfort. Unlike regular spring mattresses, the springs in pocket mattresses are not linked together rather they have small spring pockets all over the mattress. So let’s compare the features of memory foam mattresses with sprung mattresses.
Memory foam mattresses are temperature sensitive and adjust the mattress surface temperature according to your body heat and keep you warm, pocket mattresses do not have this feature. However, you can get memory pocket mattresses which have a layer of memory foam on top. If you get quite hot during the night then a memory foam mattress is not ideal as it heats your body while you sleep. There are however memory foam mattresses available with maxicool covers which stop the mattress from overheating, keeping an ideal temperature for a comfortable night’s rest.
Pocket sprung mattresses possess a number of springs inside to give a firm and supported feel while memory foam mattresses feel soft, supporting the pressure points of your body. The firm feature of pocket sprung mattresses provide that extra bit of support enabling you to sleep in supreme comfort, if however you have back soreness or muscle aches than this mattress may not be suitable. Pocket mattresses do not provide as much support to the pressure points of your body as compared to memory foam mattresses. Memory foam mattresses also have brilliant additional features, memory foam mattress with specialised features has the ability to conform to your body giving additional support and relief to pain points.
Memory foam mattresses keep a near perfect alignment of your spinal cord ensuring you enjoy a healthy and rejuvenating night’s sleep. The enhanced technology used in pocket sprung mattresses also provide similar support but when we compare it with memory foam mattresses the supporting level is not the same. If you look at the picture below you can see how a memory foam mattress distributes weight equally across your body.
Pocket sprung mattresses have more of a bounce to their surface, so if you like to toss and turn during the night than this mattress is perfect, memory foam mattresses unlike pocket mattresses contour and mould to your body, making it difficult to turn while you sleep. Memory foam mattresses also feature no roll off or roll together technology keeping you supported through the night.
Delivery can also be an issue. Most memory foam mattresses come vacuum packed which means it is quite easy to take the mattress to a room of your choice and unroll it or even keep it in storage if you wish to do so. Pocket sprung mattresses always come flat packed and this can be difficult if you need to take the mattress upstairs to the preferred room.
